When a 100-N bag of nails hangs motionless from a single vertical strand of rope, how many newtons ....?

When a 100-N bag of nails hangs motionless from a single vertical strand of rope, how many newtons of tension are exerted in the strand? How about if the bag is supported by four vertical strands?

please explain what this question is asking, and what the answer is and why. i really want to try and understand physics. thanks =)When a 100-N bag of nails hangs motionless from a single vertical strand of rope, how many newtons ....?
If there is no motion, there is no accelleration and no net force. Therefore, there must be 100N in the rope.
