They sell plastic clips for hanging lights that will clip onto your rain gutter or anything else you can fit the clip over around your house. you can use tea cup hooks screwed under the soffits you can hardly see them when the lights come down and the lights go up fast. they look like a circle with part cut out and a small screw by the opening.
I do not remember where, but I do remember seeing a Christmas light clip, sort of like a big spring clip that holds teh lights up and can come down easily afterwords.
You can get the plastic gutter clips from Walgreen's. They also clip on to your shingles if you don't have gutters.
I recommend using ? hooks. Screw them in and keep them there all year round. You'll never notice them and they'll be there each year for you. I would use the plastic clips they sell if you are going across gutters.
